Young Investigators Meeting (YIM)

2025 Edition

Deepen your scientific knowledge, receive valuable feedback, enhance your professional skills, and build your network!

2025 EANM Young Investigators Meeting (YIM’25)

For this year’s edition of the YIM, join us in exploring the cutting edge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in nuclear medicine with the theme: ‘From Bytes to Bedside: Clinical AI, You, and the Future of Nuclear Medicine’. This two-day event will take place in Vienna (Austria) on June 12-13, 2025.

For those selected, the EANM will cover participants’ hotel accommodations and travel costs to and from Vienna. So if you are a young researcher under 33, actively engaged in research on the clinical applications of AI in nuclear medicine, this is your chance!

Applications are closed.

Should you have any questions, please write us at registration@eanm.org.

  • December 4, 2024: Abstract submissions open
  • February 10, 2025 (23:59 CET): Abstract submissions close
  • April 9, 2025: Notification of outcome
  • June 12-13, 2025: YIM’25 meeting

Faculty

For the YIM’25, the faculty will consist of:

  • Tim Van den Wyngaert (Antwerp University Hospital, Belgium)
  • Margarita Kirienko (Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, Italy)
  • Laszlo Papp (MedUni Wien, Austria)
  • Kate Sturgess (Expert speaker, United Kingdom)
YIM format

Day 1

Participants arrive in the late morning (by 11:00), with the scientific programme beginning shortly after.
The meeting opens with an energising icebreaker activity and an informal conversation with the faculty to create a welcoming atmosphere and encourage early interaction.

Afterwards, participants present their projects in small blocks:

  • Presentations are arranged in 5 blocks of 2 presentations each
  • Each block includes time for discussion and feedback from faculty and fellow participants
  • The format encourages scientific exchange and helps develop presentation skills through constructive feedback

The first day concludes with a social event and group dinner, offering a relaxed setting for informal networking.

Day 2

The second day focuses on communication skills and career development. It begins with a feedback session, where participants receive comments on their presentations from the previous day.

This is followed by a hands-on workshop on how to deliver an effective elevator pitch:

  • Practical tips and real-time coaching
  • Emphasis on active learning and peer support

The meeting concludes with a final session:

  • A presentation on how to publish in high-impact journals
  • Insights into the publication process and strategies for success
Objectives

The YIM offers a unique platform to showcase your research on this topic. In addition, you will be able to:

  • Deepen your scientific knowledge
  • Enhance your communications and presentation skills
  • Receive valuable feedback from faculty members and peers
  • Expand your network by connecting with nuclear medicine and AI experts

The YIM’25 will also enable you to contribute to the rapidly evolving field of AI-driven diagnostics, imaging, and personalised treatment.

Topic relevance

With advancements in AI transforming every facet of healthcare, nuclear medicine stands at a pivotal juncture. AI is enabling unprecedented precision in imaging analysis, predictive modeling for patient outcomes, and automating workflows that improve both accuracy and efficiency. As we confront challenges such as integrating AI with clinical practice, data privacy, and the ethical use of AI-driven decision-making, the contributions of early-career researchers like you are crucial to unlock AI’s full potential. By combining AI’s analytical power with nuclear medicine’s diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities, young scientists are pioneering new paths from ‘bytes’ in data to impactful ‘bedside’ applications.

Selection criteria
  • Fulfillment of the application criteria.
  • Relevance of the research topic with the meeting’s theme.
  • Quality of the submitted abstract: relevance of the clinical topic, clear hypothesis, sound scientific methodology and analysis, feasibility of the project, and potential for clinical translation. The reported (preliminary) results will not be the primary selection criteria.
  • Personal statement quality.
YIM award

The winner of the YIM’25 event will be selected based on the quality of their research abstract, presentation, and overall engagement during the event.

The winner will receive:

    • A research award of €2,500 (paid to the host institution/department).
    • Free registration, travel (max. €350), and accommodation (max. 2 nights, €350/night) for the EANM’25 congress in Barcelona, Spain.
    • An invitation to present their research at the EANM’25.
