European Nuclear Medicine Day organised by EANM and Nuclear Medicine Europe
EANM and Nuclear Medicine Europe join forces for equitable patient access
Published: August 19, 2026
On September 29, 2026, EANM and Nuclear Medicine Europe will host their first joint European Nuclear Medicine Day. The event will address how to improve patient access to nuclear medicine through a coordinated European action.
An important awareness day
On September 29, the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) and Nuclear Medicine Europe will co-host their joint European Nuclear Medicine Day in Brussels.
Bringing together clinicians, policymakers, industry representatives, and patients, the European Nuclear Medicine Day will focus on raising awareness of nuclear medicine’s contribution to healthcare and advancing policies needed to improve patient access.
The programme will feature senior representatives from the European Medicines Agency, the European Commission, leading industry representatives, and the wider nuclear medicine community for policy discussions, and expert panels on regulatory integration, infrastructure and supply security, workforce development, and most importantly the patient perspectives.
One voice for nuclear medicine
More than 10 million nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are performed each year in Europe, and over 50 million worldwide, playing a central role in early cancer detection and the delivery of targeted radioligand and theranostic therapies. Despite this scale and clinical impact, nuclear medicine remains insufficiently recognised by policymakers, healthcare systems, and the public.
Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at the EANM’25 Congress in Barcelona last year, EANM and Nuclear Medicine Europe are taking the next step in their collaboration by co-organising the European Nuclear Medicine Day event in Brussels this September.
Closing the gap
“Nuclear medicine is transforming the way we diagnose and treat disease, yet equitable access to these innovations is still far from a reality across Europe,” says Prof. Dr. Paola Anna Erba, EANM President. “European Nuclear Medicine Day provides a unique opportunity to bring together policymakers, healthcare professionals, patients and industry to address the regulatory, infrastructure and workforce challenges that must be overcome to ensure every European patient can benefit from timely access to high-quality nuclear medicine.”
“Europe has the scientific expertise, industrial capacity and clinical excellence to lead the next generation of nuclear medicine,” says Dr. Konrade von Bremen, Nuclear Medicine Europe Vice President and EU Affairs Representative. “But innovation only makes a difference if patients can access it. By joining forces with the European Association of Nuclear Medicine, we commit to working on concrete, coordinated steps needed to strengthen supply, build capacity, and ensure equitable access across Europe.”
Joint call to action
The event will conclude with a joint call to action, in which EANM and Nuclear Medicine Europe will present their first set of joint recommendations for improving access to nuclear medicine to patients in Europe. The proposal will outline priorities for 2026–2027, including workforce development, regulatory alignment, resilient supply chains, and strategic investments to close existing gaps in patient access to nuclear medicine across Europe.
Participation in the event
European Nuclear Medicine Day will take place on Tuesday, September 29, from 13:00–to 18:00, at the Fondation Universitaire in Brussels.
If you would like to attend this event, send an e-mail to info@nuclearmedicineday.eu by Monday, August 31. Please note that due to limited capacity, we may not be able to offer a place to everyone who registers.
