Statement on the participation of Iranian nationals in the EANM'26 congress

EANM has become aware that the responses we sent to several individuals requesting invitation letters in support of their visa applications were subsequently interpreted as reflecting a general EANM policy concerning the participation of Iranian nationals in EANM’26. We would therefore like to clarify our position.  

First and foremost, we sincerely apologise to our Iranian colleagues and partners for the confusion and concern this has caused. We recognise that these responses, which addressed specific visa-related enquiries, could have been interpreted as indicating a broader policy, and we regret the uncertainty this has generated within our community. 

EANM would like to reiterate that it has no policy restricting individual registration, participation, abstract submission, or scientific review based on nationality. Neither abstract submission nor scientific evaluation is influenced by nationality or country of residence. All abstracts and manuscripts undergo a fully blinded peer-review process. 

As a European association, EANM is required to comply with applicable legal and regulatory obligations. In line with these obligations, EANM is currently unable to issue official invitation letters in support of visa applications to Iranian citizens. This measure relates solely to visa documentation and does not constitute a restriction on scientific participation based on nationality. Iranian nationals who do not require an EANM invitation letter for visa purposes are not affected by this measure. 

EANM remains firmly committed to openness, scientific excellence, and international collaboration. We deeply value the contributions of our Iranian colleagues, alongside those of researchers from around the world. We hope this clarification reassures our community that EANM will continue to uphold both its legal obligations as a European association and its longstanding commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and the exchange of scientific knowledge.
