Survey on NMTs in Theranostics
Help us shape the future role of NMTs in theranostics and clinical research.
Advancing Nuclear Medicine Technologists in Theranostics — An International Collaborative Initiative
Theranostics—the pairing of diagnostic imaging with targeted radiopharmaceutical therapy—continues to reshaping patient care worldwide. As programmes expand, the responsibilities of Nuclear Medicine Technologists (NMTs) are evolving rapidly, spanning patient education and counselling, radiopharmaceutical preparation, radiation safety, image acquisition, post-therapy imaging, clinical trial operations, and multidisciplinary coordination.
To meet this moment, four organisations have launched a coordinated global effort: the Nuclear Medicine Technologists in Theranostics International Consortium (NMT-TIC), uniting the:
- ANZSNM Theranostics Special Interest Group (ANZSNM-TSIG)
- EANM Technologists Committee (EANM-TC)
- International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
- SNMMI Technologist Section (SNMMI-TS)
Why this matters?
Global guidance from professional bodies consistently emphasises multidisciplinary teamwork, safety, and education in theranostics. Yet the training expectations, scope, and responsibilities of NMTs vary widely by country and institution. Establishing a clearer, shared framework will:
- Define the evolving role of NMTs in theranostics and clinical trials
- Identify regional enablers and barriers to high-quality care
- Propose harmonised competencies and education pathways
- Elevate recognition of NMTs as integral members of the theranostics team
What is being done?
- Data collection and analysis via international survey across regions and practice settings
- Consensus publication(s) outlining global best practices, core competencies, and recommendations for NMTs in theranostics and clinical trials
- Practical guidance document to support multidisciplinary teams in clarifying and optimising NMT roles within theranostics services
Our shared promise is simple and bold—consistent, high-quality outcomes for every patient, driven by a prepared technologist workforce and clear, team-based practice.
Participate in our clinical trials survey!
As part of this international collaborative initiative, we invite you to participate in the Role of Nuclear Medicine Technologist in Theranostics / Clinical Trials Survey.
The goal of this survey is to investigate, evaluate, and establish recommendations for Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) education, training, and professional competency standards in the field of Theranostics. Your input will directly contribute to the development of evidence-based consensus recommendations, best practice articles, and future guidelines that will harmonise global standards while recognising country-specific practices.
Deadline to participate: December 15, 2025
Your participation is essential to this international effort, and we truly value your expertise and contribution. Together, we can shape the future role of NMTs in theranostics and clinical research, raising the profile of our profession.
